Student proof documentation for dependant eligibility

Overview

Accessory benefits, such as Group Travel or Excess Medical, follow specific eligibility guidelines for dependants.

Most dependant children are covered under their parent’s benefits plan until they turn 21.

After that, they can stay covered only if they meet requirements set out by our Partners.

One of these rules is that coverage can continue if the dependant child is a full time student.

If your child is over 21 and still in school, we may ask for proof of full-time enrolment to make sure their coverage stays active.

This article walks you through what counts as documentation for student proof.

The details

Why we ask for student proof

Our Partners decide who qualifies as an over-age dependant.

A dependant child can usually stay on the Plan until age 25 if they are:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited college or university
  • Supported financially by the parent
  • Unmarried and not in a common-law relationship
  • Still covered under a provincial health plan (like OHIP)

Sending student proof helps us confirm eligibility, so coverage continues without interruption.

What counts as full-time student proof

You can upload any one of the following:

  • A confirmation of enrolment from the school
  • A timetable or class schedule showing full-time status
  • A tuition receipt that indicates full-time studies
  • An official letter from the registrar

Photos, scans, or digital downloads are all fine as long as they’re clear.

When student proof is needed

You may be asked to send proof:

  • When your child first turns 21
  • At the start of each school year
  • If our Partner requires annual re-confirmation

Blendable’s role

Blendable is your Third-Party Administrator (TPA) for these types of benefits. Basically, we help manage parts of your benefit Plan on behalf of an insurance provider.

We:

  • Collect the student proof
  • Check that it meets the insurance partner’s rules
  • Update your child’s status in our system

We don’t decide if your child counts as a full-time student for insurance purposes. Those guidelines are created by our Partners.
