The exception = the first Benefit Period!
The default renewal date is 12 months from the effective date of the Plan.
That means if the Plan starts on 2016-06-01 (i.e. the effective date), then the renewal date will be 2017-06-01... aka: 12 months later.
In the first Benefit Period, we can be our good-ol' flexible selves and let you choose your own renewal date. So if you want to align your Benefit Period with your corporate fiscal year, go for it! As long as you let us know within the first Plan Year, we're happy to help!
